Rosacea

Consultation at our clinic

Rosacea is a common condition affecting the central face, usually in middle age. A tendency to flush easily is followed by persistent redness on the cheeks, chin, forehead and nose, along with crops of small inflamed bumps and pus spots.

A number of things can make rosacea worse — though they don’t cause it in the first place — including alcohol, intense exercise, extreme temperatures, spicy food, stress and sunlight. The skin often feels sensitive and can burn or sting, and small dilated blood vessels can appear as thin red streaks.

Treatment

No treatment switches rosacea off permanently, but long-term management controls symptoms and clears spots — and it works best when started early. Mild cases can sometimes be controlled with topical treatment, while most people need oral antibiotics from time to time. Visible blood vessels are treated with laser.
